In 2003 new legislation passed by the Norwegian parliament came into effect, granting universities the right to commercially exploit Intellectual Property (IP) developed by their employees. This set a new national ambition of effectively bringing more innovations to market. Based on this legislation, the University of Stavanger and collaborative research institutions is committed to transferring innovative technologies, faster and more successful than before – for the benefit of the society.

The aim of Prekubator TTO is to commercialize new innovations, discoveries resulting from scientific research and R&D to another party for the benefit of the society. Our process involves every stage of the innovation chain from the identification of innovative ideas until licensing or start-up venture, throughout securing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), innovation management and business development.

Prekubator TTO’s main mission is to close the gap between science and industry by building a solid and sustainable bridge between inventors and industrial partners.

Prekubator TTO’s primary functions include:
- Encouraging the disclosure of new discoveries and ideas;
- Establish and maintain a proper and supportive innovation culture;
- Identify and manage new innovative projects and the research institutions’ IP portfolio;
- Secure intellectual property rights;
- Close the founding gap between the discovery of new ideas and the proof of concept;
- Generate revenues for the inventors and the research institution;
- Develop and maintain strong collaboration with industry and commercial partners;
- Enforce commercial awareness and motivation among researchers;
- Licensing technologies.

Prekubator TTO is owned by the University of Stavanger (UiS), International Research Institute of Stavanger (IRIS), Nofima, Stavanger University Hospital (SUS), Bioforsk and Rogaland Science and Innovation Park. The TTO has been established on behalf of the university and research institutions as a joint function of innovation in 2002.

Prekubator TTO has a mandate on behalf of these institutions that allows both the researchers and Prekubator TTO to take direct contact, identify and evaluate new innovations. The commercial activities are closely connected to the FORNY Program of the Norwegian research council where Prekubator TTO has been a commercial partner since 2002.

The company is situated in Rogaland Science and Innovation Park (Ipark), which is a unique and high-tech environment for technology development and business growth.
